This one is my wife’s favorite. One of my first piece’s, and a gift to my beloved. The warmth of fire light behind the cool of this giant solitary guardian of the forest surveying its realm. Powerful and commanding, yet at the same time, quiet and secure. The secret or hidden place, the shelter from life’s storms.

Inside a cavern looking out towards the entrance is the distant light of day. And yet even in the darkness of the cave light and life bloom. The light will always conquer the dark.

And from out of the inky blackness, over a swell sea, the Moon rises. Bringing a golden brightness to the void.

What started out as simple excess paint, pallet knifed across the canvas in a vaguely radial fashion, soon took on a life of its own. Just like true flowers in bloom, Daisy bloomed across the canvas.

Sometimes the night can be fearful. Generally created by the fear of the unknown. But I suggest that we can flip this idea on it’s head and point out the allure, or beauty of the unknown. Embrace the mystery. Night is a world of mysterious wonder.

I love painting these solitary trees. On an Island, and an Island unto themselves. Strong, proud, powerful, beautiful. What secrets, what wisdom, is contained in the bows of this majestic herald of nature.

I find the Moon to be so beautiful, as I’ve said before, it calls to us. I wanted to showcase the moon through different bands of color casting an almost alien feel to the landscape.

I wanted to experiment with the idea of using one element to represent another. In this case I used waves to show nature, the roots and branches of a great tree.

Put them together and they form the whole. The Celtic Tree of Life. I love the concept of opposing forces pushed together to form something as powerful and beautiful as the Tree of Life. A representation of the birth place of all things.

I think that all people are drawn to certain similar things all around us. Like fire, and water for example. And the moon. It has a power over us, it holds sway, and reminds us of what we all have in common.

Just like its predecessor, part two is an examination of the beauty found in the dichotomy of perspective. Where do we focus? The up close and personal or the big picture. The foreground or background. The problem or the solution. The hurdle or the finish line.

One of my earliest works, an experiment with color play and texture. Nature gives us such rich creative freedom. We all interpret it in our own unique ways. Which gives rise to an infinite number of possibilities to express ourselves and our appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.

Once again we are held captive by the celestial beauty of the moon. This piece is a counterpart to “Halo”. I imagine the two pieces hanging on the same wall. A stark winter landscape, seemingly barren, creates a feeling of solitude and longing. We await the spring.

Haloed winter moon as seen through frosted trees. Eerie frosty fog rises from the forest floor, pierced by the vibrant brightness of a full moon.

As the name implies, this is the first Bloom of the branch, of the tree, off the season, of the year. Spring in a single picture. Which is such a statement of Hope. No matter how difficult or long the winter or barber season has been or felt, spring always comes. New birth, new growth, new life, hope.

You can’t see the wind, but you can see the effects of the wind, in the blowing of the leaves, in the bending of the trees, in the sting on your face, in the pressure it creates, like the sands of time, and the tinkling of a chime, wind… the beauty of the unseen becoming seen.

This piece started as a trial effort that actually went wrong. But I went with it and created something new, unplanned, and beautiful. Sometimes our “mistakes” can become our greatest triumphs.

I love the imagery of a solitary sailor facing the vastness of the ocean. Sometimes the sea rages, and sometimes it’s a peaceful calm. Just like our own lives. But when we can, like in this sailor, let us embrace peace.
